Job Description


The Direct Import Buyer will be responsible for supporting the company’s Direct Import purchasing programs and maintaining relationships with current suppliers. The products and services are to be secured at negotiated costs, quality and delivery will be at competitive levels consistent with company policy and performance standards. The position is further responsible for the timely planning and scheduling of receipt and inventory control of the products and services.



  • Responsible for issuing purchase orders and ensuring timely receipt of product from suppliers.
  • Manage product changes with suppliers, marketing and engineering.
    • Interface with Asian Sourcing Office (ASO) and suppliers to coordinate product inspection and shipment to freight carrier for all Direct Import shipments.
    • Monitor customer portals for new orders or changes to existing orders and review with sales team and suppliers.
    • Receive Direct Import goods into inventory.
    • Create Direct Import immediate release and approve supplier invoices for payment.
    • Forward all Direct Import shipping documents to accounting for record keeping.
  • Evaluate supplier quotes and services to determine most desirable suppliers.
  • Provide leadership and guidance for each supplier and set priorities for build schedules.
  • Manage MRP to Suppliers and review for exceptions.
  • Maintain ongoing relationships with import suppliers to establish material delivery schedules based on MRP requirements and follow up to ensure schedules are met.
  • Review min/max levels, safety stock and safety time on an ongoing basis to maintain budgeted inventory levels.
  • Check weekly inventory balance against demand and review/revise material purchases to avoid excess inventory.
  • Work with Sourcing to negotiate and secure best pricing and terms.
  • Identify potential bottlenecks or problems in material delivery and follow up to mitigate problems.
  • Interface with Customer Service/Sales to ensure any un-forecasted demand is purchased and delivery traced to meet customer commitments.
  • Provide product and pricing information to sales force as requested.
  • Work with forecasting to investigate and validate spikes in demand.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Business or related field and 5 or more years of related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Products; Excel and MRP knowledge is required.
  • Direct Import experience and knowledge of customs regulations.
  • Excellent communication and mathematical skills required.
  • Ability to interpret procedures and regulations.
