Job Description

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Complete assigned tasks for styling, engineering, design, development, test, debug, and release of new or modified existing components and mechanisms, including Trailer Brake Control and Lighting Module components, and development of advanced development concepts, per defined processes and requirements.
  • Provide creative, technically feasible, highly usable and cost-effective solutions to our product design challenges; Support the development of new product concepts and advanced development proposals; stay abreast of technology, market, and industry trends, and convert trends into product concepts.
  • Use computer assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform engineering and design tasks, provide CAD support, conduct internal product design reviews; direct other CAD resources as needed, coordinate with core resources including PCB design, thermal, test, electronic, and software engineering.
  • Complete assigned design and engineering tasks efficiently following APQP and Launch System disciplines, provide & maintain all needed product design documentation including DFMEA, DVP&R and other Quality documents.
  • Champion, organize and manage the Design Verification and Validation of prototype and components to ensure the design meets functional and performance specifications; Analyze test data and prepare reports, lead the development and implementation of any necessary corrective actions.
  • Support engineering, purchasing, manufacturing, and other teams in development of quotes for assigned products or components; Evaluate product applications, analyze data and proposed product specifications, determine feasibility of product proposals and provide cost estimates and/or alternatives.
  • Interface with global engineering and manufacturing facilities, OE customer and Tier 1 suppliers of mating and/or surrounding components/systems; outside contractors, and material suppliers to ensure product meets functional, customer program timing and quality targets; Support other departments with appropriate technical information and updates.
  • Mentor colleagues and engineers including training for new hires and/or interns; Participate in customer/internal training and product demonstration meetings and seminars.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Required: Associates degree in a design or technical field and at least three years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Preferred (optional): Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related technical field and at least 5 years of related experience
  • Ability to translate consumer insights into compelling new product concepts.
  • Experience in molded plastic product design and engineering required. Experience in automotive interior components design is preferred. Knowledge of LED applications, PCB design, interior and exterior styling, and/or electronics integration is a plus.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills required. Experience interfacing with automotive OEMs is desired. Ability to work with multiple teams is critical.
  • Some proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint expected.
  • Experience using design software is a must; proficiency with AutoCAD and SolidWorks software use and knowledge is preferred.
  • Understanding of dimensioning and tolerance.
  • Ability to demonstrate a hands-on product development approach. Must have a strong understanding of engineering principles, product development process and design for mass production.

  • Experience in manufacturing process of steel, aluminum, or plastic components
  • Experience in APQP and quality processes for OE automotive components is preferred
  • Preferably experience in GD&T, DFMEA, DVP&R, DFSS, VAVE activities
