Job Description


The Order Control Clerk role is to coordinate various activities within the distribution center to assist in the planning, organizing, assigning and completion of operational tasks and functions.   Functional areas include order control, export documentation, and claims.

The ideal candidate will be a strong problem solver, highly organized, detail oriented and comfortable multi-tasking in a fast-paced work environment.

  • Work under established policies and procedures that assist daily operational and long-term goals of the distribution center and the company.
  • Use information to make positive changes, become more efficient, improve quality of service, maintain safety, and motivate co-workers to achieve consistently high standards.
  • Suggest and assist with implementing changes in work practices for better efficiency and quality by applying the principles of continuous improvement to all distribution center processes/procedures/equipment.
  • Respond to questions, resolve problems, and provide technical and other assistance to staff completing assigned work
  • Maintain, research and submit information regarding operational budget as requested. 
  • Responsibilities will also include more specifically:
    • Release orders to the distribution floor for timely processing and filling of orders through CMS and Achieve WMS.
    •  Import outbound orders on a scheduled frequency plus any orders from Customer Service or DRP departments
    • Complete all export documentation in accordance with export requirements.
    •  Maintain databases and/or reports to communicate work status to concerned parties.
    • Navigate customer and carrier web sites, provide shipment tracking and support as needed to requested parties
    • Maintain accurate records of orders on hold for material.
    • Release hold orders to the distribution center floor upon receipt of material.
    •  Review reports to ensure orders have been processed accurately and timely.
    • Invoice completed shipments.
    • Maintain, file and archive documents in accordance to SOP’s required for internal and external audits per Horizon Global policy.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 1-2 years of previous distribution experience.
  • Above average computer aptitude with ability to use a variety of word-processing, database, and spreadsheet software applications and programs.
  • Ability to multi-task, be self-motivated, and able to work both in team environment as well as independently to meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be dependable and able to be relied upon to be at work. 

       Applicants with the following will be first considered:

  • Experience with ERP (CMS a plus) and WMS software.
  • Experience with 5S and continuous improvement programs.

  • Light to Medium physical exertion; exerting 5 to 10 pounds of force continually, or occasionally 20 to 50 pounds of force to lift, lower, carry, push, pull or move objects.
  • Standing, walking, and/or other positional physical movements may be occasional to frequent.
  • Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 70% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, mouse, calculator, and copier/scanner equipment.
  • Perform job duties in both an office and a warehouse environment.
