Job Description

SUMMARY

The Transportation Manager will help communicate, implement, and maintain the overall vision of Horizon Global as it relates to transportation. Internally, the Transportation Manager will work hand-in-hand with Shipping, Receiving, and other site personnel. Externally, they will build and maintain strong carrier relationships across all modes (Truckload, LTL, Vessel, Parcel, etcetera).

RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Coordinate with the corporate Transportation Manager to develop and execute strategic initiatives
    • Participate in carrier procurement, such as selection, qualification, on-boarding, and RFPs
    • Help facilitate best practices in the Shipping and Receiving Offices
  • Oversee Yard Management processes (trailer statuses & locations, shunter driver activities, etc.)
  • Monitor carrier performance and escalate issues as-needed
  • Act as a liaison between Horizon’s carrier base and the Edgerton Distribution Center
  • Meet regularly with LTL terminal managers and other carrier representatives
  • Keep updated contact information and escalation matrixes for both the plant and carriers
  • Maintain and report out key performance indicators (KPI) related to transportation at the Edgerton facility
  • Become a subject matter expert with Horizon’s Transportation Management System (TMS)
  • Help with daily carrier selection based on customer requirements (routing)
  • Assist with filing freight/cargo claims
  • Monitor Logistics Operations on-site to ensure operational efficiency (cube utilization, timely loading & dispatching, low-cost carrier selection)
  • Interact with truck drivers daily and ensure they feel they’re a valued partner. Work with dispatch and warehouse staff to minimize loading/unloading times (Shipper of Choice)
  • Establish and maintain a container management program, but specific to other specialized equipment
  • Coordinate all transportation requirements with all three shifts leaders

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor's degree in Logistics, Transportation or related field or at least 5 years equivalent work experience
  • 2 or more years of experience in a traffic or shipping office (dispatching, creating Bills of Lading, Yard Mgmt.)
  • Proficient in MS Office suite, specifically at least an intermediate skill level with MS Excel
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team environment
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
  • Ability to drive process improvement and lead change
  • Working knowledge of Warehouse Management Systems and/or ERP systems are a plus
  • Customs experience is a plus (import/export, creating commercial invoices, HS classification
